I have just adopted an SPCA dog and knew I would need to find a vet who truly cared and was competent. I did a lot of checking around before deciding to try Dr. Jay Taylor. My dog, Buddy, had clearly been abused and was very skittish of everything. Dr. Taylor was acutely aware of the dogs stress level and sat on the floor as not to tower over him, or to crowd him. His staff is just as pleasant and proficient as Dr. Taylor. I am very happy to have found such a wonderful vet to help me care for my new dog.

My elderly dog had been in a fight, and I was really worried. The receptionist, tech, and doctor carried her into the clinic and tended to her lovingly and immediately. This place is wonderful.

I had heard nothing but great things about Dr. Jay and his staff prior to using them. My family has been using them for some time now too. My wife took our 10 month Great Dane in for a check up for blockage. Without even trying to get to know the dog he walked up to her broad shouldered with a treat and she growled. He did not even take the time to get to know her or introduce himself before muzzling her. Then because muzzling her spooked her he chose to sedate her, without the explicit approval from my wife who was in a compromised emotional state at this point. Dr. Jay did not disclose the price of the sedation that he elected to do without full consent, and then he chose to do an X-ray he stated was not necessary but a precaution. Also did not disclose the price of the X-Ray.

Some of the nicest people you could ask for. Dr Jay Taylor made me feel like I had known him for many years as did his assistant. They get down on the floor with your animal and get to know them on their level, which made my dog and I feel more comfortable. Very kind and gentle and empathetic to all our concerns. Love, Love, Love them.

My pets have been clients of another vet on the beach since 1988. We were some of his first clients. In the past year I had to put my two dogs to sleep. The founder of that practice made fun of my how one of my dogs, which had lost a lot of his hair from cancer, looked. He suggested I get a Halloween costume for him to hide his looks. This was just a sample of his transformation from someone who apparently pretended to care about the animals to someone who blatantly did not. He allowed pet owners to hear how many alimony payments he had to make while waiting for someone to see their pet. While this was totally unprofessional it certainly explained why he has become one of the most expensive vets on beach.

I would like to reiterate that before this incident I had nothing but good things to say of Dr. Jay and had heard nothing but good things, but he crossed the line by performing procedures that were unnecessary and not gaining the trust of the dog.

I would highly recommend Dr. Taylor and his staff! I got an appointment on short notice and had to get 2 kittens ready to fly back to CA. He worked with me to get the proper documents ready on very short notice. His whole staff were all very friendly as well, a different experience from our previous vet. I also really appreciate that he works closely with the Manteo SPCA. Great experience and wish I lived closer to use him as our regular vet!

I very thankful and relieved to have found him!

Me being in the military and away for work, I was only able to confront Dr. Jay over the phone. To my dismay I received nothing but empty apologies.
