I wanted to post this caveat for those who are considering coming to the Duck/Corolla area in the summer. It is very crowded and you will likely deal with this traffic phenomenon upon arrival and exit.
I wish I could give 0 stars. Horrible service from start to finish. First, they did not let us know that their office had moved, so we drove an extra 30 minutes trying to find it. Not only was our condo NOT clean when we arrived, we also found a dead cockroach on the bedroom floor. We spend the first 2 hours of our vacation cleaning. We left a review and list of complaints but never heard back from the company. This is not the way to run a reputable business. We will never use this company again!
I am only rating the rental service. First, I wish they had apprised us of what to expect upon arrival. It took 2 hours to go the last 17 miles to their office, and this in 100 degrees and no restrooms. I called the sheriff and they told me it is like this every Saturday, as the rental people book the units Saturday to Saturday. Local law-enforcement appears to do nothing to keep traffic moving.
When we called the rental office at 3:30 to let them know we were stuck in traffic 17 miles away and were trying to get to them before closing, they said nothing about what to expect. It was only upon calling the sheriff that we learned we would not make it in time. When we called the rental office back to get an after-hours number at 3:50 (10 minutes before their advertised close time on Saturday), they had already left the office.
Well, let me tell you...dealing with them on the phone was fine, but they are not super helpful. They made mistakes on the contract off the bat (be careful). The cleaning crew for the unit we rented leaves something to be desired. They left the bag of dirty linens from the guests before us on our porch the entire week. The place was not clean! The furnishings are outdated and dirty (spots on the couch, grease all down side of refrigerator, dirt and bugs in sliding glass door track, etc). Now, 2 months after our vacation we receive word from the travel/rental insurance company that Carolina Shores said we had a "stain" in one of the sinks and they filed a claim, which was approved. This is BS! There was no stain whatsoever - not even sure what sink they are referring to. We didn't cook/eat in the unit whatsoever. The unit we rented was sub-par at best (extremely different from the online pics), now you add this to it...Buyer Beware!

Unfortunately have to agree with the other reviewers. Carolina Shores exhibits questionable tactics. First up, cable box was broken, toilet and sink were clogged. Second, none of the sheets fit the mattresses they were supposed to fit. Finally, there is a beach renovation occurring and we are not allowed on the beach. We paid $5000 to be right on the beach because one of our family members is 83 and can't walk for very long. We are banned from our own private beach! Carolina Shores was extremely dodgy about this project, stating it "probably won't affect" us. Large Caterpillars have been outside the house making noise and marring the beauty of the shore. We were informed they are supposed to work 24/7 but that has not been the case - at the current rate, they will not finish during our vacation.
