He looked over my new ring, explained that the setting was vulnerable to losing the stones if sized down too much (makes perfect sense and I agreed). What I didn't like next was his low-ball estimation of what we paid for it. He said that the ring was only worth about XXX .. based on the gold and diamond weight... Using his metrics the items in his store are grossly overpriced. He used the low ball to downsell his repair estimate of around $200 - which was actually reasonable given the work he proposed.
We've been dealing with them since they were in Manteo 10-15 years ago. Always interesting and unique jewelry to choose from, and wonderful staff. The owners Ken and Eileen treat us like old friends everytime we see them. Highly recommended.
I would have considered the repair until I was reiterating what he told me (to make sure I understood) and he instructed me that he doesn't work for free. I told him I did not assume he worked for free and would be open for him to repair it based on my trust with them.
60% off is still like $300 for ugly stuff. Super tacky place going out of business after 25 years
Overall - I could care less if an asteroid hit their building (after hours of course). Won't be back. Cool place for ladies jewelry, have a shoebox sized display for the men - but you'd be doing me a favor not giving them your business.
After purchasing out of state, I was adamant about having the ring resized @ Diamonds 'n Dunes because I trusted the quality of work, integrity, and friendliness of the main gentleman there. I soon found out, this friendliness had bounds.
I wanted to write about my disappointing visit to Diamonds 'n Dunes today. I have been here many times in the past for jewelry repair and have stopped in as my first choice in my wedding band selection process. Very appealing place.
OBX local here.
Good store closing deals.
The woman who greeted me told me that she would have the main jeweler right down, so I walked to his counter (this isn't my first visit with him). He came down, I explained to him about the ring, was asked again if I bought it there (they should have known by looking at it) and I again said I wish I had, I shopped with Diamonds 'n Dunes first.
He took every opportunity he had to end the conversation.. and have me take it to where I bought it. I can sympathize with that to a point. But he was extremely rude and was offensive. I would never be that way to a customer who #1, told you that they came to you first #2, is back to your door to give you business on a repair, and #3 still in the market for my fiance's wedding band.
I stopped in today to inquire about the resizing, and was asked if I purchased it there. I informed them that I wish I did - I came to them first but could not find what I was looking for. From this point forward, I was talked to like I was an incompetent and rude person.
My fiance bought my wedding band in VA due to the limited availability, and rather small selection for men @ Diamonds 'n Dunes.
Very nice people. Very helpful.
